The Pittsburgh Penguins are extremely happy with the group of players they have drafted over the past 43 days. Sure there were some players that they weren’t able to land, but never got discouraged when a player on their list got selected before they had a chance to obtain the players services. Onward and upwards they went. The Penguins have announced that veteran forward Vincent Lecavalier will don the ‘C’ for the club. “I don’t think you need a letter on your sweater to be a leader, but it’s definitely a great honor to be captain,” Lecavalier said. Eric Staal and Jeff Carter will be the alternate captains to start the season.
Going into the 1st season of the OGSHL, the Penguins do not expect scoring to be an issue, with the likes of Jamie Benn, Marian Gaborik, Jeff Carter, Eric Staal, Alexander Semin and Captain Vinny. However, stopping the goals will be the area of concern for this team. Not having an elite starting goalie for this season, they are relying on Karri Ramo and Carter Hutton to split the work load in the crease, while the team wait patiently for Gibson to develop into that ‘Elite’ status. “Gibson has excelled at every level, and we expect him to one day excel in the OGSHL”, commented Head Coach and General Manager Walsh.
The flightless birds hope that playoffs are obtainable with this squad and only time will tell if this mix of players can come together and perform to the expectations of not just the owners and management, but to the expectations of each other. “Not making the playoffs isn’t acceptable”.
