After a heart-breaking loss in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Philadelphia Flyers, it was back to the drawing board for the Dallas Stars. The Stars GM looked over the roster and noticed a few holes the organization were missing. The biggest hole was our 2nd line Center position. While Tyler Bozak was an adequate fill-in for the first season, we wanted to improve that spot. The GM went out and acquired one of the best, young, two-way Centers available in Ryan O'Reilly. His contract is more than we'd hoped ($2M more than Tavares....). However, a 1-2 punch of Tavares-O'Reilly is one of the best, young tandem in the OGSHL. Giving up a promising Winger in Kyle Okposo was difficult, but with his injury-prone status, we decided it was worth the risk. With Okposo on the move, we were now missing a top six Winger. We shipped out Mr. Mediocre himself - Tyler Bozak - for speedy Swede, Carl Hagelin, and a 2nd Round pick in 2016. Hagelin should see solid time in Anaheim, and possibly even play with one of the best duos in the league - Getzlaf+Perry. The Stars made a few other trades this off-season - notably acquiring then shipping out Shea Weber - and we feel as though we've gained salary space, youth, and draft picks while staying as one of the top competing teams.
