Bill Skinner here in Edmonton, catching up on the latest moves by the Oilers, and what it all means.
Bill Skinner: "Chris, almost 2 weeks ago, you made some numerous changes to the roster, and I would like to get your thoughts and reasons behind them."
Chris Mitchell: "Sure Bill. First of all, these roster moves were mainly to give me a little more room financially. These moves ended up cutting the payroll down by just over $2 million dollars, so even though it wasnt a huge savings, it does help a bit. Secondly, the majority of these moves will only impact our farm club this season. It was also a way to start building for the future as well. As everyone knows, I made a huge trade here about a month ago, and it added quite a bit of salary to the budget. I was just trying to look for ways to lower the spending, without changing the look of the main club too much, and I was able to do that."
Bill Skinner: "Do you see anything else happening between now and the start of the regular season?"
Chris Mitchell: "Honestly, no I dont. Right now its simply a matter of trying to find the chemistry with all of these players, and find combinations that will work. As the pre-season has gone on, I have been less than impressed with the outcome so far. I have a plan in place, as well as a time frame for what I want to happen. The rest of the pre-season, as well as the first 20 games of the regular season will be a huge factor in which direction the team will go moving forward."
Bill Skinner: "Thanks for your time Chris, I will be in touch."
Chris Mitchell: "Anytime Bill. Take care."
So there you have it. It sounds like there is a bit of frustration here in Edmonton, and it wont be long before we see what direction the team will be heading. Reporting live from Edmonton, this is Bill Skinner.
