Bill Skinner here in Edmonton for a quick report from the man in charge of the Oilers, Chris Mitchell.
Bill Skinner: "Chris, now that the pre-season is over, what are your thoughts heading into the season after posting a 17-10-3 record here in the pre-season?"
Chris: "Honestly Bill, Im pretty happy with the way the team has been playing as of late. We didnt start off good, but we have turned things around for the most part. With all the money that was spent on this roster, the first 20-30 games of the season will be huge for us. It was made very clear by the moves I made, that I was trying to make a good run this season. That being said, with the lack of money that is left in the budget for this season, the players must step up and perform. I have confidence in the roster that we can be a good team, but its up to the players to perform."
Bill Skinner: "Is this season a do or die type season for the team?"
Chris: "Yes, I think so. As I said, the first 20-30 games will tell a lot about where we are going this season and in the future as well. Many of the guys here are veterans, so they all know that their years are running out. I have made it clear to everyone in the organization that if we dont perform the way I expect us to, then I will not hesitate to start a complete rebuild of the team, and plan for the future. The fans deserve a winning team here in Edmonton, and if these players cannot provide that, then I am fully ready to start over and build a team for the future."
Bill Skinner: "Thanks for your time Chris, I appreciate it. Good luck this season."
Chris: "Anytime Bill. I will talk to you later."
There you have it folks. It sounds like this season is a very important one here in Edmonton. Lets hope that all the money spent will pay off and the Oilers can make a run this season. Reporting live from Edmonton, this is Bill Skinner.
